Programs and Services

By offering a variety of programs, North West REC strives to promote energy efficiency combined with convenience and savings for our members.

During the mid-1980's, a load management program, Switch Makes Cents was begun. Members who have electric heat as their primary heat source in their home or building may qualify for special, low heat rates. Another way that NWREC helps our members is through the Energy Efficient Loan Program for qualifying home improvements.

In the past, North West REC and Basin Electric Power Cooperative have sponsored scholarships to a dependent of a member of North West REC.

North West REC and Northwest Iowa Power Cooperative (NIPCO), our power supplier, offer rebates for new electric heating systems and electric water heaters.

One of our newer programs is Operation Round Up. Through this, our members are making a meaningful difference in local communities through donations to worthy causes and organizations, simply by having their monthly electric bill "rounded up".

For our members who are interested in "green energy" we offer the Prairie Winds program. Since 2002 this program has allowed customers to voluntarily contribute to the development of alternate energy production facilities.
