Touchstone Energy
We are Your Touchstone Energy® Partner! Why? Because we are dedicated to serving you, our members, with integrity, accountability, innovation and commitment to community.
More than 600 Touchstone Energy® cooperatives in 45 states are delivering electric power and energy solutions to more than 22 million customers every day.
A 'touchstone' is a measure of quality and value. Touchstone Energy® was selected as the most effective name for communicating the unique characteristics that convey the special nature of cooperatives, including:
- Strength and responsiveness through a local presence
- A genuine commitment to the communities they serve
- A human relationship orientation
- Innovation and state-of-the-art technology
- High-quality service with a true focus on customers
As a Touchstone Energy® Cooperative, we are associated with a nationwide network of other electric co-ops dedicated to bringing added value and benefit to all consumers, meanwhile adhering to seven guiding principles.
- Voluntary and Open Membership - for all persons able to use a cooperative's services and willing to accept the responsibilities of membership, without gender, social, racial, political or religious discrimination.
- Democratic Member Control - cooperatives are controlled by their members who actively participate in setting policies and making decisions by electing representatives accountable to the membership.
- Members' Economic Participation - members contribute equitably to and democratically control the cooperative's capital. Capital surpluses may be allocated to developing the cooperative, setting up reserves to benefit the members in proportion to their cooperative transactions, and supporting other membership-approved activities.
- Autonomy and independence - cooperatives are autonomous, self-help organizations controlled by their members. If they raise capital from external sources, they do so on terms that ensure democratic control by their members and maintain their cooperative autonomy.
- Education, training, and Information - provided for cooperative members, elected representatives, managers and employees so they can contribute effectively to the development of their cooperatives.
- Cooperation Among Cooperatives - cooperatives serve their members most effectively and strengthen the cooperative movement by working together through local, national, regional and international structures.
- Concern for Community - While focusing on member needs, cooperatives work for the sustainable development of their communities through policies accepted by their members.
